Challenging Minds, Changing Lives

Rise Up 4 CS is a project to help underrepresented students succeed in their Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science courses (CSA and CSP). Participants report an increase in interest in computer science and typically have a higher pass rate than the average for their gender or race. They report enjoying the program. They also say it is where they get their questions answered and learn programming concepts at a deeper level. They enjoy working with undergraduate students in computing at Georgia Tech.

Rise Up offers both one-hour remote and three-hour in-person help sessions led by undergraduate students. All students need for the remote help sessions is a computer and internet connection. We also offer one-on-one one-hour remote help sessions. The in-person help sessions are held about once a month at Georgia Tech.

Students can apply for CSA at The kickoff meeting will be held November 12th from 1pm to 4pm. Underrepresented students and at least one of their parents should attend. They will both fill out forms. The students will take a pre attitude survey and a pretest. The parents can attend a talk about Georgia Tech or a walking tour of Georgia Tech.

The second year magnet class applied to be volunteers at a STEM activity called 48 in 48 and were accepted. At the event, 48 nonprofits will be assisting in creating 48 websites, logos, and other marketing materials to help them grow. Our students will assist with logistics and supplies. Please congratulate them when you see them.
