Enrollment Eligibility Criteria for Lovejoy's Magnet Program

Applying to the Magnet

Vision
The Mathematics and Computer Science Magnet Program aspires to create a community of lifelong learners who will be assets to their community by working towards computer science, global awareness and global engagement.

What are you applying to?

The Lovejoy High School Magnet Program is funded to accept students from Clayton County for incoming 9th Graders and current 9th graders. Because the Magnet Program's curriculum is interrelated between grades and sequentially different from other high schools, only students with an interest in computers, Chinese, science, and mathematics are accepted. Students take 3 years of the Computer Science pathway and 4 years of the Chinese.   Students are not permitted to transfer among magnet program within the county.  Should a student want to be removed from the program as a 9th grader, the student will have to reapply to another magnet program and meet the requirements for acceptance.  However, juniors and seniors are not eligible to be enrolled into any of the magnet programs in Clayton County Public Schools.   Students are provided transportation upon acceptance

What else to expect when you are accepted?

The important point is that magnet schools are schools of choice – students are enrolled based on their interest in the school’s theme The Lovejoy High School's magnet program is Mathematics and Computer Science.  The magnet theme "challenging minds, changing lives" is based on providing opportunities for the students to be globally competitive.  Therefore, the magnet students at Lovejoy High School will take Chinese for 4 years (ie., Chinese I, Chinese II, Chinese III, & Chinese IV), and are immersed in a culture-rich environment that allows them to become balanced bi-cultural and bi-literate citizens for the global economy.  Also, the students will take Intro to Digital Technology, AP Computer Science Principles,  AP Computer Science A, and/or Game Design to complete their Career Technical Agricultural and Education pathway.  There is the expectation that the students will wear blue magnet polo on Mondays, pay $100.00 activity fee, and attend all magnet program activities.
